Dirt

If you need me I will be below the dirt
If you need me I will be inside the earth
My body’s colder than a glacier, but I feel warmer than a hearth
And if anyone needs me, I will be below the dirt.

Because I have slept in the presence of death
And he sang me a lullaby absent of breath
As beautiful creatures began filling my head,
Tearing up every lover my heart ever dreamt

I fell into the sky and looked up at the sea
And the stars started talking and questioning me
Pulled me out to the edge of all things so I’d see
How our lives rest upon a tumbling leaf

How we feed off our mother, we call her the earth
And our time is a speck at the edge of her skirt
She takes to the floor, time to dance, it’s her turn
So what happens to us as she spins and she whirls?

So if you need me I will be below the dirt
If you should need me I’ll be inside the earth
Moving slower than a glacier but fast despite its girth
And if anyone needs me I will be below the dirt

If anyone needs me I will be below the dirt
If anyone needs me I will be inside the earth
Where it’s colder than a sepulcher but hot enough to burn
And if anybody needs me you will find me in the dirt.
